The Greek word for mercy is Ἔλεος and pronounced el-eh-os. So, the whole phrase: Ἔλεος θεός: is pronounced “el-eh-os Theos”, which means the “Mercy of God”.

God’s mercy is a thing which deserves great praise. Compassion causes Jesus to feel empathy for the people, mercy causes Jesus to heal them. This mercy (or eleos) is the aspect of God’s love or compassion that causes Him to actively help the miserable. Just as grace is the aspect of His love that moves Him to forgive the guilty.

God shows His mercy by actively helping those in need. Those who are miserable may be so either because of breaking God’s law or because of circumstances beyond their control. Regardless God's mercy is always available and are new every morning. He even shows mercy on those who have gotten themselves into a bad situation due to their own actions or choices.
