There is a truth we can be sure of, and which John speaks about. The very foundation we rest all our hope on is reflected in what John says. In 1 John 1:5 he records that God is light and there is no darkness in Him. It would be devastating to have a God in whom there is darkness. A god that has darkness could never be trusted. He could at any time change his mind about you or me or about all of us for that matter.

But James says that there is not even a shadow of change in God. This is the reason God Himself says in Mal. 3:6 that the sons of Israel are not destroyed. God made certain promises to Abraham and David that requires their continued existence.

He will not … cannot break His promises.

There will never be a time when God will not keep His word to us.

Num. 23:19 “God is not a man, that He would lie, Nor a son of man, that He would change His mind; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"

Tit 1:2 "... in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, ..."

God never holds something in front of us to entice us then yank it away when we reach for it. He does not say something and then take it back.
