Peace:

The Greek word for Peace is eirēnē; pronounced “i-rah-nay.”

There’s no denying we live in a very disturbing world. And the craziness around us seems only to be getting worse. Peace, real peace, is hard to come by. Thankfully we have a God who desires for us to have peace. Not just temporary peace, but permanent, pervading peace. This kind of peace however can only come from God. And He sent Jesus to give it to us.

John 14:27 “Peace, I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.”

John 16:33 “These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

Ephesians 2:17-18 “And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near; for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.”

2 Thessalonians 3:16 “Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all!”

These are not words from someone who doesn’t want us to have peace. Just the opposite. We were not created to worry or fret. We were created to trust in the Lord. It’s in His ability and authority that we can find real peace. If there are times when we do not experience that peace, all we have to do is look to Him and ask for it, putting our trust in an abundantly faithful God who has our best interests in mind.

But it’s not just for us who believe. We can pray for others to experience this peace as well. And in experiencing that peace they can discover there is a God of peace. You see He is not at war with man, man is at war with Him. Our heavenly Father offers peace and reconciliation.
